Duolingo English Test

This is an online, on-demand, North American test of English proficiency.  It is primarily aimed at students wishing to gain entry to further/higher education institutions.  It is marketed as quick and low-priced, promising results 'within minutes' whilst fully-certified results are avilable within 48 hours. Candidates are required to set aside 45 minutes for the test which is taken using a computer in a quiet, well-lit location of the candidate's choice. 

A useful function of the test is that you are able to select which partner institutions to send your results to and this is done electronically along with a sample of the student's writing.  Security (i.e. proof of identity of the test-taker) is carried out remotely and the candidate uses his/her computer's camera to take a picture of his/ her proof of ID.

Duolingo tests all four skills:  Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening.  A short video showcasing the candidate's English ability is produced for the student's use at the end.
